I’ve received request to dethrone Emir Sanusi – Ganduje

“There is no doubt that Kano is in trouble…”

Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has said the massive spread of the novel coronavirus in the state which resulted into multiple deaths in a short period was because the response to the virus pandemic ‘started on a shaky foundation.

The governor also blamed the massive outbreak of the deadly disease in the State to the delay in testing suspected cases at the right time.

Kano State has recorded hundreds of people reportedly dying in the State on a daily basis since it recorded it first index case. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also stated that the multiple deaths recorded in the state may have resulted from coronavirus complications.

In a statement made available by Abba Anwar, his Chief Press Secretary, Ganduje lamented that the State was in trouble following the uncontrollable spread of Coronavirus Disease in the State.

Anwar quoted the Governor to have said this on Sunday during the presentation of a mobile COVID-19 Testing Centre donated to the state by Aliko Dangote.

He said, “There is no doubt that Kano is in trouble.

“And there is no doubt that we started on a shaky foundation.

“When samples were taken to Abuja for 7 hours and came back again in 7 hours, that was the shaky foundation I am talking about.

“We then lodged our complaint to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ordered for the establishment of a Testing Centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, which after take-off was shut down for some days if not weeks.

“That was what escalated the transmission of the disease up to community transmission.”

He, however, assured that with the coming back of the AKTH Testing Centre, the addition of Bayero University that has the capacity of testing about 200 samples per day and the Mobile Testing Centre of 400 samples capacity donated by Dangote, the State was making headway in facing the situation squarely.
