Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) has promised to drive economic growth in Ogun State by also giving grants and operational autonomy to cooperative groups and traders in the state.
He said this at Saala-Orile Yewa North Local government on Thursday during the campaign tour of the area.
The two-time governorship candidate noted that the state is blessed with an array of resources, promised to put into consideration giving grants to traders.
Prince Gboyega Isiaka was speaking against the backdrop of request for grants from both representatives of Traders Union and Cooperative Societies in Yewa North.
According to the groups, they were tired of being given loans with interest, even as they get over-taxed, pleading with the governorship hopeful to put their welfare on his agenda.
Mr. Kehinde Wahab, representative of the Farmer’s Association appealed for support in agriculture, observing that Ogun State has the potential to outgrow Lagos State’s economy if the agricultural sector is given the needed support.
Iyaloja of Yewaland, Alhaja Yemisi Abass while pledging her group’s allegiance to Isiaka said “Our suffering is too much. We have never had market bigger. Provision should be made for us in the state’s budget in the spirit of fairness. It is time for us to fast-track development in the market. The economy of our markets must flourish.”
In his words, Prince Isiaka said “I can assure you that we will look at how this can be done. Grants and autonomy will be taken into full cognizance. It is a deal that I want to assure you all on”.
According to the ADC governorship candidate, “Reworking the economic model of Ogun State is top priority for us because there is no plan at the moment. The potential is huge and I recognize the real sector, being SMEs as a driver of growth, hence they shall be our focus with a support that is not going to further burden them”.
Isiaka said that the greater Ogun state agenda is a state that is self-sustaining and where every citizen will be productive and prosperous.
