2025 Olota Cup Kicks Off in Grand Style, Reinforcing Otta’s Commitment to Youth and Sports Development

The 2025/2026 edition of the prestigious Olota Cup has opened in grand style, reaffirming the kingdom’s dedication to youth empowerment and sports development. The colourful ceremony marked another milestone in Otta’s continuous efforts to nurture young talent and promote community growth through sporting excellence.

His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D., the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, Awori Kingdom, officially declared the tournament open on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Bells University Stadium, Otta, Ogun State.

According to Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, Principal Secretary to His Majesty, the ceremony drew distinguished guests, community leaders, senior academics, and prominent sports stakeholders, reflecting the significance of the annual competition.

In his address, His Majesty commended the organising committee led by Mr. Olaniyi Akinbode, CEO and Publisher of Travellers Network Magazine, for their dedication and accomplishments in successfully hosting both the Olota Cup and the Olota Marathon Competition. He urged participating schools to see the tournament not just as a contest but as a platform to foster unity, exhibit professionalism, and pursue sporting excellence that could open doors to future football careers.

The event also attracted several dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Professor Jeremiah Ojediran; the Otta Area Commander, ACP Olusola Oladele; the representative of Kabiyesi Oba (Barr.) Samuel Ojugbele, Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo, Mr. Taiwo; Oba Clement Akinyemi, the Ajana of Ijana Otta; the Aare Atunluse of Aworiland, Aare Surv. Segun Osifeso (FNIS); the Registrar of Bells University, Mr. Lamidi Tafa; and Prince Jamiu Komolafe, Baale of Ipamesan Oke-Otta, among many others.
