The presidency, however, dismissed the demand for the minister to quit his position.
Garba Shehu, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari’s media has said that the certificate forgery involving former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, is worse than Isa Ali Pantami’s views on terror groups.
The Presidency spokesperson made the remark on Friday when he appeared on Channels TV.
Adeosun who was alleged of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate forgery resigned from the position following heavy criticism on the matter.
Current Nigeria’s Communications Minister, Pantami had during his series of lectures in the 2000s expressed views in support of Al-Qaeda and Taliban.
Following recent bashing on his views which has led to calls for his resignation, Pantami explained his perception had changed.
The presidency, however, dismissed the demand for the minister to quit his position.
Shehu said in the case of Pantami, “you are probing the thoughts, what is called ‘McCarthyism’; you search the inner recesses of the minds of individuals, bring out things they have said or they are about to say or you think they would say and use that against them.”
“If Pantami had forged certificate before coming into office, the attitude would have been different”, he added.
