An underwriting firm, AXA Mansard Health, has ramped up its preventive healthcare advocacy, calling on Nigerians to prioritise early cancer screening as a life-saving measure against late-stage diagnosis.
The health management organisation made the appeal during its 2026 World Cancer Day webinar, where medical and insurance experts addressed widespread fears, misconceptions, and financial concerns that often discourage individuals from undergoing timely screening.
The virtual session focused on demystifying cancer testing procedures and strengthening public confidence in routine health checks. Experts emphasised that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes while reducing long-term healthcare costs.
Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Health, Tope Adeniyi, said the initiative underscores the organisation’s commitment to empowering Nigerians with knowledge and support to make proactive health decisions.
“At AXA Mansard Health, our responsibility extends beyond providing access to healthcare services. We are committed to ensuring that Nigerians feel informed, supported, and confident enough to act early. Too many people delay screening due to fear, and educational platforms like this help change that narrative,” Adeniyi stated.
He added that improved awareness and access to screening would ease the financial and emotional burden often associated with late-stage cancer treatment.
Chief Operating Officer, Jadesola Idowu, stressed the importance of comprehensive support systems that address not only medical but also emotional and financial concerns.
“Wellness requires emotional, mental, and financial assurance. Many people want to take preventive steps but are unsure how to begin. Conversations like this help reinforce that screening is not something to fear but a responsible health decision,” Idowu said.
Participants at the webinar received practical guidance on modern screening procedures, including clinical processes, emotional preparedness, and the role of health insurance in improving accessibility and affordability. Experts also addressed psychological barriers that prevent routine checks.
Industry stakeholders note that greater awareness and access to preventive healthcare services could significantly reduce late-stage cancer diagnoses in Nigeria, where many cases are detected only after symptoms worsen.
AXA Mansard Health reaffirmed its commitment to championing preventive healthcare through sustained education, advocacy, and accessible health coverage — part of broader efforts to build a healthier and more informed society.
