Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima have been sworn in as the president and vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

They were sworn in on Monday at Eagle Square in Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT).

The oath of office was administered to them by Olukayade Ariwoola, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), in the presence of former President Muhammadu Buhari and their family members.

Tinubu and Shettima are respectively the 16th president and 14th vice president of Africa’s most populous country.

Business and political leaders and foreign presidents were in attendance at the inauguration ceremony.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on 1 March, declared Mr Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the 25 February presidential election. He defeated 17 other candidates who participated in the election after polling 8,794,726 votes. He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes in over 25 states.
