Operatives of the Lagos Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 60 suspected internet fraudsters during an awards ceremony at the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the EFCC, the event tagged ‘Peer Youths Awards,’ was organised to reward high-level internet fraudsters popularly addressed as ‘yahoo boys’.
Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest include exotic cars, electronic devices, laptop computers and mobile phones.
The suspects will soon be charged to court, the anti-graft agency said in a statement, titled, ‘EFCC arrests 60 at Yahoo Boys’ Awards Night,’ issued on Monday.
The anti-graft agency had earlier denied raid on the Abeokuta hotel after Some unidentified men, suspected to be its personnel, in the dead of the night reportedly stormed the venue of the award, shooting repeatedly into the air.
