CAC Announces Nationwide Clampdown on Unregistered POS Operators From January 1, 2026
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued a fresh warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators across Nigeria, declaring that all unregistered operators will be shut down beginning January 1, 2026.
In a statement on Saturday, the Commission said it has discovered a growing number of POS operators running businesses without registration, in violation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agent Banking Regulations.
According to the CAC, every POS operator must formalise their registration before the enforcement date or risk immediate closure.
The agency noted that security operatives will be deployed to ensure strict compliance nationwide.
The statement further criticised what it described as “reckless practices” by some operators and certain fintech companies enabling unregistered POS businesses, warning that such actions endanger Nigeria’s financial system and citizens’ funds.
“Unregistered POS terminals will be seized or shut down by security officials.
Fintechs enabling illegal operations will be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN.
All operators are advised to regularize immediately. Compliance is mandatory,” the Commission said. Read More
