Former African champions, Enyimba of Aba, on Sunday defeated TS Galaxy of South Africa to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The two time CAF Champions league winner trounced its South African counterparts 2-1 on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium.
Enyimba had won the first leg of the play-off in Aba 2-0 and ended the game 4-1 aggregate after the all-important victory in South Africa.
Enyimba got the opening goal in the 76th minute through Daniel Darkwah, while Martins Usule made it 2-0 a few minutes later.
Galaxy, however, struggled to pull a goal back in the dying minutes through Terrence Mashego. The host’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation as Enyimba triumphed 2-1 on the day and 4-1 on aggregate to secure a spot in the group stages.
Similarly, Enugu Rangers also qualified for the group stage of the CAF Confederation cup after managing to edge the Togolese side, ASC Kara in last qualifying stage.
Rangers lost to ASC Kara 1-2 in the first leg and managed a 1-nil victory in the return leg in Enugu.
It was Chinonso Eziekwe who settled the tie in the 18th minute when the converted Nnamdi Egbujuo’s defense splitting cross to make hay and send the crowd into wild jubilations.
The flying antelopes qualified for the group stage on away goal rule after the game ended 2-2 aggregate.
