“A disruptor, An intentional , conscious disruptor . This is the optic I glean. May it end well, especially for the masses”. – Dr Ibietan Omoniyi .
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deliberately shaking the table. He is pulling the rug off the ‘ fleet’ of economic vultures and political vampires. He is dealing with with rodents, wheeler-dealer in our corridors of power.
The President is seemingly having the fun of his Life attending to sworn duties as a truly, thorough-bred, civilian President of this Republic. Not a Diarchical Presidency as we have had hitherto.
As ordinary and customary as it is that , all politically appointed public office holders must exit with an outgoing administration the political will and valour of President Tinubu deserves to be commended for relieving Pointsmen of security bodies , dissolution of boards of parastatals , public Institutions as well as freezing funding of MDAs. This is in Nigeria, where political patronage , God Fathers assured
” Sit – tightism” of public officers even beyond statutory stipulations for their tenures.
The resolve of this administration to confront these entrenched aberrations is a wise economic decision. The President inherited a battered national economy on downward spin to precipice , he must necessarily blocked all drains and leakages on the lean public treasury.
As a developmental , anti – corruption Coalition we salute the audacity , wisdom and patriotism of the decision of Mr. President Tinubu.
In the same vein, we recognise his Initiatives to sanitise the public, governance space , particularly the suspension of the earstwhile Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, probing of the activities of various Government bodies, steps towards “Keynesian macro – economic reforms”, stabilisation of the national currency etc. It is instructive to note that his political appointments thus far , especially of new security chiefs are rooted in geo – political fairness and equity. The President decision are commended across quarters for being blind to negative primordial , religious, ethnic – nationalist , social credentials considerations.
We expect a fight back from entrenched orthodoxies.
This administration is seemingly focused on disrupting the processes of privileged few who have been profiteering from the control of State’s machinery of human and natural resources exploitation. Inevitably, the ship of the nation’s affairs would be in direct collision course with these elements, if the compass for “Assured HOPE” must navigate to the shores of dividends for teeming millions of working , toiling masses .
The consequential pangs of the removal of petroleum subsidy , planned hike in the electricity supply tariffs, introduction of commercialised, education through fees , charges and levies are bound to impose monumental sufferings, hardships and pauperisness on the common citizens . It is therefore, imperative for the Government to critically interrogate its further socio – economic policy thrusts .
The NNPCL as the mainstay of our economy requires thorough fare cleansing of it’s Augean stable just as the banking sector are being scrutinised: The GMD , Kyale who is presiding over the moribunded corporation should be instantly relieved of his post if the reforms in the sector is to percolate down for the benefits of the people and State . Even as we appreciate the licensing of six new petroleum marketers to import petroleum , this is really just akin to treating eczema while leprosy is allowed to fester . The main solution is to ensure the operations of our ” sabotaged refineries” . The organized Labour, NLC/TUC, Informal Sector and genuine people’s oriented CSOs must hold Government at jugular on the “Oil Subsidy Palliative ” scheme to benefit common man on the streets, against it’s likely diversion as was done with COVID-19 Palliatives.
We call the attention of unwary, hapless public to grand scheme by a cabal to impose discredited, agents in his cabinet. These are the exact portraits of the type of personalities President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should flee from In picking those to serve with him or, occupy our public – space – going forward.
We identify the government’s resolve to deploy ” Keynesian Principles ” to execute it’s avowed ” Assured Hope” agenda .
This is a populist welfare idea that is totally in sync with renown character trait of President Tinubu . In pursuit of this social – welfarist programs , it is instructive to observe that it is a double – edged sword ” . As it churns out social intervention with the left hand, it invokes other hash neo liberal, anti poor economic policies with the right. This is why thus far, this administration is like a ‘ mixed pouri’ of combined antithetical government. It needs to take deep breaths and recalibrate .
We urge the Government to scientifically examine how it can nurse our national economy back to healthy stability. In this regard, we advice the Government to be cautious of dancing naked to the drums of international finance Institutions which, often times, prescribe injurious bitter pills for the masses. Nigeria citizens need a minimum of two years moratorium for them to recoup their resilient capacities through Government provision of social intervention, welfarist packages. Only after then, can government think of apposite economic reforms. Human capital is the pillar of all sustainable, developmental strides.
We are confident that if within the two years citizens’ relief haven span, Federal Government can fix the energy crisis challenges, and put in place an industrial growth friendly, transportation grid, the country would be on the tarmac to journey its developmental flights. Seamless fuel supply, constant, uninterrupted power supply, functional road, rail, air and water transportation system are desideratum for our developmental take off. Perhaps, the only addition is the dire imperative to revamp as well as reposition our sabotaged, comatose iron and steel industry.
This simple agenda cannot be successfully executed at the back of the citizens. Nigerians, are by nature, very industrious, patriotic and creative . If these basic infrastructural facilities are available, the sky is not even a bar for the latent potentials of Nigerians to be unleashed. The Government must therefore, consciously court a mass based, citizens-driven Social Movement to pilot the process for the rebirth of our Great Nation.
