A former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, is still being detained by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in Abuja, the federal capital territory 24 hours after his arrest.
Okorocha was arrested and intensely grilled by the operatives of the anti-corruption agency at about 4 p.m. Tuesday at his Unity House private office in Abuja.
Newsheadline247 understands the former governor was arrested after a five-hour standoff with the operatives of the EFCC who trailed him to the location.
It was gathered that the anti-graft agency had repeatedly invited the former governor to its Abuja headquarters in connection with multiple corruption allegations against him.
Okorocha, who is now the senator representing Imo West, reportedly declined to honour the invitation, a development that infuriated detectives who fanned out to get him.
Further checks revealed that Okorocha passed the night at the detention facility of the commission in Wuse 2, Abuja.
Information made available revealed the embattled former governor is still in detention because the operatives of the commission have been interrogating him since his arrest on Tuesday.
The interrogation has continued till Wednesday afternoon with no end of the exercise in sight
Details of the allegations against Okorocha are sketchy but information made available indicates the accusation levied against him related to suspected monumental graft during his eight-year reign as governor.
