The State Director of the security agency had earlier denied that Tanko-Yakasai was in their custody.
The Department of State Services (DSS), has admitted they arrested Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, who was sacked by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State after he condemned President Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to end the security crisis rocking the country.
The State Director of the security agency had earlier denied that Tanko-Yakasai was in their custody.
The DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, opened up that Tanko-Yakasai was in the custody of the secret police.
In a terse statement he issued on Saturday evening, Afunanya said the former governor’s aide was under investigation for issues beyond his remark.
“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services.
“He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,” the statement read.
Earlier on Saturday, reports emerged indicated the Kano governor’s spokesperson was arrested by operatives of the DSS after calling Buhari and the APC government a failure. Tanko-Yakasai reportedly stated this via tweet post in reaction to the fresh abduction of over 300 students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State
Governor Ganduje subsequently fired him citing unguarded comments against the APC and the Buhari-led government.
