#EndBadGovernance: Protesters Charged with Treason Remanded in Kuje, Suleja Facilities
The accused persons were also said to have incited the public against the government, destroyed public properties, and injured police officers
A Federal High Court in Abuja has arraigned ten members of the #EndBadGovernance protest on charges of attempting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include treason, incitement, and destruction of public properties, per PRNigeria.
The Inspector General of Police alleged that the accused persons committed the offences during their nationwide protests between July 1 and August 4. They were said to have levied war against Nigeria, broken into the Abacha Army Barracks, and called on the military to take over the government.
The accused persons were also said to have incited the public against the government, destroyed public properties, and injured police officers. A 70-year-old British citizen, Andrew Martin Wynne, was alleged to have instigated the mutiny against the Nigerian government.
The IGP’s counsel requested that the accused persons be remanded in prison pending their trial. However, the defence counsel moved oral applications for bail, citing authorities to justify their requests.
Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that the defendants be remanded at Kuje prison in Abuja and Suleja prison in Niger State and adjourned the ruling on their bail applications till September 11.
