Ex-CDS Lucky Irabor Alleges Politicians Are Funding Terrorism in Nigeria
Nigeria’s former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor (rtd.), has alleged that some politicians in the country are actively financing terrorism, contributing to the worsening insecurity that has gripped several regions.
Irabor made the startling revelation on Monday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme monitored by newsheadline247. He was responding to questions about the distressing rise in kidnappings and banditry, including the abduction of schoolchildren in multiple states.
Speaking on the escalating crisis, the former CDS warned that the threats were not random but deliberately orchestrated.
According to him, “Some Christians are being targeted in this country, and some politicians are funding terrorism in this country.”
Irabor explained that during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, security agencies identified several individuals allegedly responsible for financing terrorism.
“There are a lot of individuals who are being called to question, and while I was the Chief of Defence Staff, some trials were made for the financiers,” he said.
The remarks have sparked renewed public debate on the political dimensions of Nigeria’s security challenges, adding pressure on authorities to reveal and prosecute those allegedly bankrolling violent groups.
