FG Celebrates Funke Akindele as Behind the Scenes Hits ₦2.1bn Box Office

The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele on the record-breaking box office performance of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the achievement as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and a clear sign of the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories.

According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has officially crossed the ₦2.1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film to surpass ₦2 billion in earnings.

“Behind the Scenes has officially crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the ₦2 billion mark,” the agency stated.

The NOA noted that the film’s success was not limited to Nigeria, as it also posted impressive numbers internationally.

“The flex did not stop at home; the movie also showed modest global muscle, raking in over $111,256 in Canada and an impressive $190,249 across North America.
From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in.”

The agency further highlighted Akindele’s remarkable consistency, describing her as the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years — a feat that underscores her dominance in the industry.

According to the NOA, the success of Behind the Scenes reflects the expanding reach of Nigeria’s film industry and reinforces Nollywood’s growing global appeal, calling the milestone a proud moment for the nation’s cultural and creative sectors.

The Federal Government’s endorsement comes amid widespread acclaim for the 2025 release, which has not only dominated the domestic market but has also strengthened Nollywood’s international footprint.
