First Lady Remi Tinubu urges Nigeria to deepen its commitment to empowering persons with disabilities, stressing that true national progress requires accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all

“A Truly Inclusive Nigeria Must Empower Persons With Disabilities” — First Lady Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for a renewed national commitment to empowering persons with disabilities, stating that Nigeria’s progress depends on ensuring full inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all citizens.

In her message to mark the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday, Senator Tinubu stressed that a truly inclusive Nigeria is one where people living with disabilities are supported to live independently and contribute meaningfully to national life.

“A truly inclusive Nigeria must ensure that persons with disabilities are supported and empowered to be independent,” she said, urging governments at all levels, institutions, and communities to strengthen systems that promote accessibility, dignity, and social inclusion.

The First Lady noted that the annual observance—held under the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress”—serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s collective responsibility to expand opportunities for persons with disabilities.

She emphasised that disability inclusion is fundamental to sustainable development and national cohesion, not an act of charity.

She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to advancing the rights, welfare, and full societal integration of millions of Nigerians living with disabilities, expressing solidarity with them across the country. Read More
