Funke Akindele Warns UK Fans Against Posting ‘Behind the Scenes’ Clips
…Warns Piracy Could Cause Massive Losses
Nollywood star actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has appealed to her fans in the United Kingdom to stop posting recorded clips of her new film, Behind the Scenes, on social media.
The movie, which premiered on December 4 at Odeon Cinemas, Greenwich, has enjoyed wide acclaim and strong early reviews. But the filmmaker says the excitement is now threatening the project’s financial success ahead of its Nigerian release on December 12.
In a video message to fans, Akindele expressed concern that unauthorised sharing of footage could discourage cinema attendance and undermine the massive investment put into the film.
“UK fans that have watched Behind the Scenes, please stop posting online, you’re not helping or promoting,” she said.
“Please don’t record, we spent over a billion on that project, don’t let me run into debt. Please stop posting the recordings, it is piracy.”
The actress stressed that piracy not only hurts filmmakers but jeopardises the sustainability of Nollywood’s growth. She urged fans to respect intellectual property and wait for the official rollout across Nigerian cinemas.
Many supporters have since rallied behind her online, amplifying the call to discourage piracy and encouraging others to support the project legally. Read More
