How Globacom Is Laying Foundation For Sustained Competitive Edge, EVC Bella Disu Reveals

Globacom Limited is currently undergoing a significant transformation to improve its internal processes and deliver innovative, high-quality telecom services.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at achieving what Bella Disu, the Executive Vice Chairman, refers to as “the path to sustained competitive advantage.”

Globacom’s mobile division, Glo Mobile, is the third-largest mobile network operator in Nigeria, based on subscriber numbers. It faces strong competition from MTN Nigeria (owned by South Africa’s MTN Group), Airtel Nigeria (owned by Bharti Airtel of India), and 9mobile (owned by Nigerian investors), as well as from smaller telecom companies.

“To maintain a sustained competitive advantage, we must offer our subscribers quality, innovation, efficiency, and customer responsiveness,” Disu stated.

Globacom, launched in 2003 by Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr, has since grown into a formidable force in Nigeria’s telecom sector, boasting a wide array of innovative services.

The Nigerian telecom market remains fiercely competitive, with Q3 2024 figures revealing 154.9 million active phone lines, 132.9 million internet connections, and 90.1 million broadband connections. To stay ahead, Globacom is intensifying efforts to upskill its workforce and streamline its internal operations.

In a video posted on LinkedIn, Disu highlighted the company’s ongoing initiatives: “Today, Phillips Consulting, alongside some of our Heads of Departments, facilitated training sessions at our headquarters. Staff from various regions participated to enhance our service delivery.”

Disu emphasized the importance of personal commitment and continuous improvement in achieving organizational goals. “Sometimes, you won’t feel like tackling critical tasks, but success demands consistency. Our commitments define us, build lasting relationships, and drive results. It’s empowering to know you can rely on yourself to follow through,” she said, urging staff to embrace a culture of sustained excellence.

Globacom has consistently prioritized innovation, introducing several groundbreaking services over the past two decades. One of its most notable achievements is the Glo-1 undersea cable, a high-capacity submarine fiber-optic cable linking Nigeria to the UK. This infrastructure has significantly enhanced internet speeds and boosted Nigeria’s online capabilities.

“We made history as the first single company to construct a submarine cable from the UK to Nigeria. Glo-1 has transformed internet connectivity, improving download speeds and enabling cutting-edge online technologies,” Disu remarked.

Reiterating the company’s vision, Disu stated, “Excellence in service delivery begins within. We must cultivate a culture of excellence to deliver exceptional value to our customers. This commitment is central to staying on the path of sustained competitive advantage.”

With these strategic initiatives, Globacom aims to solidify its position as a leader in Nigeria’s dynamic telecom industry. Read More
