A former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), has expressed sadness over the death of prominent Yoruba leader, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, who died Wednesday night age 94.

Daniel who lamented the death of the late leader of the Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, said the demise of Fasanmi happened “at a most inauspicious time when Nigeria is in search of an identity and the Yoruba nation is expected to play a very decisive role.”

This was expressed in a statement sent to newsheadline247, Thursday.

“My heart goes out to the entire family of late Pa Ayo Fasanmi; the Yoruba nation, Governors of the states of the South West; leaders and members of Afenifere for the sad loss of another Icon of the Yoruba unity and identity.

“This is indeed a great loss which is happening at a most in’s auspicious time when Nigeria is in search of an identity and the Yoruba nation is expected to play a very decisive role.

“The death of Pa Fasanmi is a personal loss to me because with him I shared a common bond in the struggle for the cultural renaissance of the Yorubas in an emerging nation like Nigeria.

“I am deeply pained.

“Adieu Pa Fasanmi! May God grant your repose eternal rest,” the statement said.
