IGP Egbetokun Hails Lagos Police Command for Excellence, Lays Foundation for New Multi-Purpose Hall

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the Lagos State Police Command for its commitment to professionalism, innovation, and service excellence, describing the command as a “foundation for vision, progress, and excellent service.”

Egbetokun gave the commendation during the foundation-laying ceremony of the IGP Egbetokun Conference Hall at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said Lagos represents a unique security environment that has often served as a model for effective policing across Nigeria. The new multi-purpose hall, he added, would replace an older structure and serve as both a conference and operational support center for the command.

“As we lay these bricks, we are laying hope — the foundation of efficient policing in Nigeria, professionalism, discipline, and excellent service,” the IGP said.

Egbetokun urged other police commissioners nationwide to emulate the Lagos command’s initiative by improving infrastructure and service delivery within their respective jurisdictions.

The police chief also addressed security arrangements for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, scheduled for Saturday, assuring voters of a peaceful and credible exercise.

“The Nigeria Police do not have a candidate in this election. Our loyalty remains with the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Egbetokun disclosed that senior officers had been deployed to oversee operations and ensure collaboration among all security agencies during the election.

He encouraged residents of Anambra to turn out en masse to vote, assuring them of a level playing field for all candidates.

The IGP also reassured Nigerians of adequate security measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

He said that proactive security planning had been ongoing across all police commands to ensure safe travel and peaceful celebrations.

On the recent upsurge in crime, including banditry and kidnapping, Egbetokun emphasised a community-based approach to tackling insecurity.

“Security is not something provided in silos. All hands must work together — security agencies, community leaders, and citizens alike,” he noted.

He also appealed to the public to avoid spreading false information, stressing that misinformation often undermines national security efforts.

Meanwhile, the Association of Civil Society Organizations for Peace and Security (ACOSOPS), an Abuja-based coalition, has applauded the Lagos State Police Command for its lawful conduct and adherence to due process.

In a statement signed by Comrade James Okoronkwo and Mr. Johnson Eze, the group defended the command’s recent enforcement actions, describing them as constitutional and necessary for maintaining peace and order.

“Any attempt to portray lawful security measures as disobedience to court orders is a misrepresentation of facts,” the statement read.

The coalition praised Commissioner of Police Jimoh Moshood for his leadership, describing him as a “fine and transparent police officer.”

ACOSOPS urged the public to remain calm and allow judicial processes to take their course, warning against politicising security issues.

“National security must take precedence over individual interests,” the group said, reaffirming its commitment to defending the integrity of Nigeria’s security institutions. Read More
