Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has emerged as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
The don is the wife of ex-Secretary to the State Government and current Commissioner for Environment, Tunji Bello.
Ibiyemi becomes the ninth LASU VC following months of controversial selection exercise.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had in May annulled the process and sacked the institution’s council for not following extant rules.
Ibiyemi, a Professor of Medicine, was until now the acting VC of the institution.
Born April 23, 1964, she attended Anglican Girls Grammar School, Surulere, 1974-1979; Methodist Girls High School, Yaba; Lagos College of Science and Technology.
She also schooled at the University of Ibadan, 1982-85; the University of Lagos, 1987 and the University of Texas, Health Science Centre, San Antonio, USA, 1994-1998.
Ibiyemi was an Assistant Lecturer, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba; Lecturer, 1988; Lecturer II, 1991; Lecturer I, 1996; Senior Lecturer 1999.
The new VC became an Associate Professor in 2005; Professor of Physiology, LASU College of Medicine, 2007, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, LASU since 2008.
