“Leave Me Alone” — Busola Oke Fires Back at Critics Over Music, Age, and Industry Struggles

Nigerian gospel singer Busola Oke has publicly addressed mounting criticism surrounding her music career, expressing deep frustration over what she describes as constant disapproval from fans and critics.

In a video shared online, the singer questioned the expectations placed on her, lamenting that her efforts are consistently met with negative reactions regardless of her approach.

I’m at a loss for what people really want from me,” she said. “There is nothing I do that is good in your eyes. No matter what I do, it’s never right, and you always find fault. Have I offended you before?”

Oke highlighted the conflicting feedback she receives, noting that she is criticised for performing songs deemed outdated, while also being judged as too old when she attempts to adapt to newer styles.

“If I sing, you will say it is not what my colleagues are singing and that it is an outdated genre. If I sing the kind of song you prefer, you will say I am too old for that kind of song. How can I possibly meet your expectations?” she asked, urging critics to “let me be.”

The emotional outburst comes amid broader personal struggles. In a previous interview with Biola Bayo, Oke revealed the harsh realities of sustaining a career in gospel music, stressing that talent alone does not guarantee financial stability.

She further disclosed that her recent reaction was fueled by feelings of loneliness, depression, frustration, and hunger, shedding light on the often-overlooked challenges faced by artists in the industry.
