EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede says the investigation involving former AGF Abubakar Malami predates his tenure and is not driven by personal motives

Malami Investigation Predates Me, Not Personal – EFCC Chair Clears Air
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has dismissed claims that the ongoing investigation involving former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, is driven by personal motives.
Olukoyede made the clarification during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme aired on Channels Television, where he stated that the probe against the former AGF began long before his assumption of office.
According to the EFCC boss, he merely continued an already existing investigation file upon becoming Chairman, stressing that the matter has been handled strictly within professional and institutional boundaries.
“The case of Malami is not personal. I inherited the investigation file,” Olukoyede said.
He added that the former AGF had been under investigation for a considerable period following the exit of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, noting that the process was neither initiated nor personalised by him.
“Malami has been under investigation for almost two and a half years after the exit of Buhari’s government,” he disclosed.
Responding to insinuations that the probe may have been selectively pursued, Olukoyede insisted that his role was simply to ensure that due process was followed.
“I’m yet to understand and see the facts he would bring out to back that claim,” he said.
“All I did was ensure the investigation was carried out in a very professional and thorough manner.”
The EFCC Chairman reiterated the commission’s commitment to fairness, transparency and adherence to the rule of law, emphasising that no individual is targeted based on personal considerations. Read More
