NANS lauds Gbenga Daniel for starting Cargo Airport project, highlights other developmental programs
The students’ association urged Senator Daniel not to relent in his progressive tenet despite relentless victimization from ‘OGUN STATE Tax Collectors’ who have failed to deliver on their promises to the good people of the state
The Southwest chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended former governor of Ogun State who is currently representing Ogun East in the upper chamber of the national assembly, Senator Gbenga Daniel, on his unprecedented achievements when he served as the state governor from 2003 to 2011.
Daniel, the peoples’ senator, has widely been adjudged as the best of all governors ever to lead the gateway state with unblemished string of feats recorded in eight years as the number one citizen of the state.
The billionaire engineer, with his wealth of experience as businessman, transformed the state making it attractive to all comers, including investors and tourists. OGD, as Otunba Daniel is popularly addressed by associates and followers, initiated multiple projects and developmental programmes, among them is the Ogun Agro Cargo International Airport. The students’ group applauded OGD, the first ever two-term governor in the state on the idea and take off of the implementation of the airport.
The NANS SouthWest, in statement signed by its Director of Gender, Oyegoke Yemisi, and made available to newsheadline247 described OGD as “the most accommodative and listening Governor in the history of Ogun students’ movement.”
According to the statement which highlighted few of OGD’s giant strides, the students’ association urged Senator Daniel not to relent in his progressive tenet despite relentless victimization from ‘OGUN STATE Tax Collectors’ who have failed to deliver on their promises to the good people of the state who elected them.
The NANS statement read;
There are two men that are unforgettable in a community; man that turns a forest into a city and another who turns a city into a forest.
This is why NANS SOUTHWEST can’t but threads the memory lane reemphasizing the magnificent contributions of OTUNBA GBENGA DANIEL towards empowerment of youths, especially the revitalization of quality and affordable education in Ogun State.
Unarguably, Senator Gbenga Daniel remains the most accommodative and listening Governor in the history of Ogun students’ movement. Our position is backed several of his developmental programs during his time as governor of Ogun State.
1. OGEGEP – Ogun State Employment Generation Programme: trained people in various vocational and agricultural activities, supporting them with facilities and engaging them.
2. HUCAP – Human Capital Development: provided educational scholarship for training brilliant but indigent students abroad. Most beneficiaries are today contributing excellently to local development.
3. Teaching Service Employment Scheme: employed a high number of professionals into the teaching service. Many of them are now senior teaching staff in schools across the state, improving access and quality education in public schools.
4. TRACE – Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps: Another employment generation drive which created the opportunity to employ qualified people to enhance road safety and traffic control in the state.
5. OGRUMED- Ogun State rural Medical services for free treatment of ailment and surgery.
6. OSAMCA – Ogun State Agricultural and Multipurpose Credit Agency for loan facilities to develop agriculture and small businesses.
7. OGSEP – Ogun State Electrification Project
8. OGROMA- Ogun State Road Maintenance Agency, a home-grown road rehabilitation and construction agency run by indigenous professionals and envisioned to develop local competencies, forestall capital flight, undertake cost effective projects and create employment opportunities.
9. Three international standard stadia were built majorly to support sports development, provide opportunities for talented youths in sports and generate revenue for the state.
10. Purchase of 20 power plants to provide electricity to key public facilities and their host communities across the state. Sadly, successive government s have failed to put this laudable initiative into good use. Only the one installed by the OGD administration is in use while others are left to rot at the Oke Mosan governors office.
11. TASUED – Tai Solarin University of Education: the first University of Education in Nigeria created employment opportunities, admission opportunities and improved teacher education.
12. ICT Polytechnics in Ijebu Igbo, Saapade, Igbesa and Itoru were established to prepare youths for the information technology age and provided the needed manpower for the benefit of the state and country at large.
13. Three Free Trade Zones which include Olokola FTZ, Kajola FTZ and Ogun Quandong FTZ Igbesa.
14. Trailer Parks
15. Initiation of legacy projects like the Deep Sea Port, Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas OKLNG, Agro Cargo Airport, Ilisan etc.
NANS SOUTHWEST seizes this medium to urge OTUNBA GBENGA DANIEL not to relent in doing good despite ceaseless victimization from the Tax Collectors of OGUN STATE who have failed to deliver on their pledges to the good people of the state who voted them in.
Senator Daniel should kindly look into the following areas that can greatly matter to the life of Nigerian Students
1. BURSARY AWARD TO INDIGENT STUDENTS (We understand he has started but like Oliver Twist, we ask for more).
2. REGULAR MEETING WITH YOUTH AND STUDENTS LEADERS.
3. FACILITATE MORE JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CONSTITUENTS MOST ESPECIALLY LOYAL STUDENTS WHO HAVE GRADUATED FROM THE VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS ESTABLISHED BY HIM.
SIGNED.
