Nigeria Customs Nets ₦1.75 Trillion, Seizes ₦7.7 Billion in Smuggled Goods in Q1 2025
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated a record ₦1.75 trillion in revenue during the first quarter of 2025, exceeding its target by ₦106 billion and marking a 29.96% increase from ₦1.34 trillion in Q1 2024.
Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi announced the achievement at a press briefing in Abuja, crediting reforms and enhanced enforcement under the Tinubu administration.
January led with ₦647.88 billion, a 65.77% surge year-on-year, followed by ₦540.1 billion in February and ₦563.5 billion in March, both surpassing monthly targets.
In anti-smuggling efforts, the NCS recorded 298 seizures valued at ₦7.7 billion, up 78.41% from Q4 2024. Seized items included 135,474 bags of rice, petroleum, narcotics, and wildlife products worth ₦5.65 billion.
Trade facilitation saw 327,928 import declarations processed, valued at ₦14.8 trillion, with export volumes soaring 348% to over 5 billion kilograms despite a 24.4% dip in declarations.
Strategic initiatives like the Authorized Economic Operators programme, B’Odogwu platform expansion, and the Customs Cares CSR campaign also advanced.
