Nigeria Strengthens Global Partnerships as Edun Meets UNICEF, Polish Officials in Abuja

Nigeria on Thursday strengthened its global alliances in human capital development, economic expansion, and strategic investment as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, hosted two high-powered delegations from UNICEF and the Government of Poland in Abuja.

During a meeting with UNICEF’s new Country Representative, Hajar Saeed, the minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening social protection, improving healthcare delivery, and expanding educational access under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reform agenda.

Edun emphasized that Nigeria’s macroeconomic policies are intentionally structured to lift productivity, reduce inequality, and create inclusive opportunities for all citizens.

“Human capital is the engine of sustainable development. Our macroeconomic reforms are designed to improve lives, unlock economic potential, and ensure every Nigerian can participate in national growth,” he said.

Ms. Saeed commended the government’s reform trajectory and pledged UNICEF’s continued alignment with national priorities. She also expressed readiness to explore innovative financing models, including debt-for-development and debt-for-climate swaps, aimed at enhancing child welfare, expanding social safety nets, and strengthening long-term development outcomes.

Nigeria–Poland Relations Strengthened

Earlier in the day, Edun met with a delegation from Poland led by the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Africa, Wojciech Zajączkowski, to discuss ways to scale up bilateral trade and deepen strategic investments.

The minister welcomed Poland’s recent efforts to intensify engagement with Nigeria, noting that the nation’s improving macroeconomic fundamentals, renewed investor confidence, and ongoing reforms provide fertile ground for mutually beneficial partnerships.

He highlighted opportunities across key sectors including manufacturing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, mining, agriculture, and defence technology.

Deputy Minister Zajączkowski described Nigeria as Poland’s top strategic partner in Africa, praising the current administration’s reform momentum.

He reiterated Poland’s commitment to expanding private-sector partnerships, strengthening digital governance collaboration, and increasing trade flows between both nations.
