Nigeria Police Rescue 21 Kidnapped Victims, Recover N4.8m in Ransom, Arrest Six Suspects
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 21 kidnapped individuals, seized N4.8 million in ransom funds, and apprehended six suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting kidnapping and violent crime across the country in early 2025.
In a significant operation on March 29 in Taraba State, police from the state command, alongside other security agencies, thwarted a kidnapping along the Takum/Mararaba road. After a fierce gunfight with the abductors in Muji Town, 20 victims were freed, and abandoned vehicles were recovered. Two of the rescued victims, injured during the ordeal, are receiving medical attention.
In Kano State, a breakthrough came in the investigation of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau’s abduction on March 8. Leveraging technical analysis, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested five suspects—Tukur Lawal (alias Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim—between March 18 and 19. The operation yielded a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in suspected ransom money, with the victim safely reunited with his family.
Separately, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested Kafinta Musa in Taraba State for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms possession. An AK49 rifle with five rounds of live ammunition was confiscated, and efforts continue to capture his accomplices.
