Nigeria Confirms Ongoing US Cooperation in Precision Airstrikes Against Terrorists in North West

The Nigerian government has officially acknowledged ongoing security and intelligence cooperation with the United States, which contributed to recent precision airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts in parts of the North West region.

In a press release issued Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, authorities described the collaboration as structured, consistent with international law, and respectful of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“In line with established international practice and bilateral understandings, this cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security,” the ministry stated.

The statement emphasized that the joint efforts have played a key role in conducting “precision airstrikes” against terrorist positions, helping to degrade the operational capacity of violent extremist groups operating in the region.

Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations, the ministry stressed, remain firmly guided by the protection of civilian lives, the preservation of national unity, and respect for the rights of all citizens irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form — whether directed at Christians, Muslims or other communities — remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” it added.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships through established diplomatic and security channels. This includes working to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and counter cross-border threats, while simultaneously building stronger domestic security and intelligence capabilities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Nigerians that it would maintain regular engagement with relevant international partners and provide updates to the public through official channels as the fight against terrorism continues. Read More
