Nigerian Breweries Appoints Maria Karaseva as Finance Director, Guillaume Duverdier as Non-Executive Director
The Board of Directors of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigeria’s foremost brewing company, has announced the appointment of Maria Karaseva as Finance Director and Guillaume Duverdier as Non-Executive Director.
Duverdier takes over from Mr. Sijbe “Siep” Hiemstra, who recently retired from the board, while Karaseva succeeds Bernardus A. Wessels Boer, who completed his assignment as Finance Director on August 31, 2025.
Confirming the development, the Company Secretary/Legal Director, Uaboi Agbebaku, said the appointments took effect recently.
Duverdier, a seasoned executive within the HEINEKEN Group, most recently served as the Regional President for Africa and the Middle East. With over 20 years of strategic and operational leadership experience spanning Europe, Africa, and Latin America, he is expected to bring immense value to the board.
Karaseva joined Nigerian Breweries from Al Ahram Beverages in Egypt, another HEINEKEN operating company, where she served as Chief Finance Officer. She has extensive expertise in finance and corporate strategy within the consumer goods sector.
During his tenure, Hiemstra played significant roles, including serving as interim chairman, where he oversaw the successful execution of a business recovery plan that returned the company to profitability. Boer, on the other hand, was instrumental in the company’s financial turnaround, including a drastic reduction in debt and the elimination of foreign exchange-denominated obligations.
