Night to Dawn Curfew Imposed in Oyo as Alaafin Owoade Begins Traditional Ascension Rites

The Chief of Staff to the Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom has announced a daily curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., effective immediately, in preparation for the traditional rites of the Alaafin, Abimbola AbdulAkeem Owoade I.

This curfew will be in effect from Friday, March 7, to Saturday, March 29. Its purpose is to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Oro Ipebi rites, an important traditional process leading to the Alaafin’s ascension to the throne.

Rotimi Osuntola, the Alaafin’s Chief of Staff, advised residents of Oyo township to adhere to the curfew and refrain from movement during the restricted hours.

“Movement is not allowed during the curfew. Anyone who violates this order will be arrested and detained until 7 a.m. the following day,” Osuntola stated.

He emphasized the significance of respecting the Oro Ipebi rites, which involve the Alaafin entering a period of absolute seclusion.
