Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, as he marked his 70th birthday.

In a heartfelt letter dated March 2, 2026, Obasanjo celebrated Daniel’s life of service, describing it as a shining example of dedication, resilience, and impactful leadership.

“It is with the most sincere pleasure that I join your friends and well-wishers to rejoice with you and your family on the occasion of your 70th birthday celebration,” Obasanjo wrote.

The elder statesman extended warm wishes on behalf of his family, praying for continued good health, joy, and peace of mind for the veteran politician.

Reflecting on Daniel’s journey, Obasanjo emphasised that the former governor has every reason to be grateful for a life filled with accomplishments and service to humanity.

“By all measures, you have lived a worthwhile life of service to your nation and humanity and have proved your competence in various fields of endeavour,” he stated.

Obasanjo highlighted Daniel’s tenure as Ogun State governor between 2003 and 2011, noting that his administration fostered unity and laid a strong foundation for economic and social development.

“You pursued peaceful co-existence between people of different ethnicities and religions in Ogun State and put in place the foundation for social and economic growth,” he added.

The former president also commended Daniel’s current role in the National Assembly, describing his representation of Ogun East since 2023 as exemplary.

“You have represented your constituency with an uncommon sense of duty and dedication to the service of the good people who elected you,” Obasanjo noted.

In one of the most powerful lines of the letter, Obasanjo pointed to Daniel’s inspiring rise from modest beginnings to national prominence.
