The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has insisted on handing over to his preferred candidate, Adekunle Akinlade despite the fact that the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) submitted the name of billionaire oil mogul, Dapo Abiodun.

Governor Amosun had favoured Akinlade as his candidate in the run-up to picking the party’s flag bearer in the state’s governorship election in 2019.

But the NWC of the APC declared Abiodun the winner of the primary while it rejected results from a parallel primary conducted by the state’s executive of the party – a decision Amosun had vehemently protested.

According to a statement released on his behalf on Friday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, governor Amosun restated his “unwavering commitment and total support for the mandate” he claimed to have been freely given to his preferred candidate, Akinlade.

The statement read partly, “For the avoidance of doubt, I remain committed to our great party, APC, and I stand with and for our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I am in no doubt that come May 29, 2019, the Almighty God will make Mr President triumph and ensure that I hand over the reins of governance of our great state to the popular choice of the majority of our people, Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.

APC Director of Organisation, Abubakar Kairy, led other senior staff of the party out of the secretariat had on Thursday in a branded APC bus, to the International Conference Centre (ICC) to submit the list; amidst uncertainty among the candidates and protesters.
