The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State after the controversial primaries may eventually tear the party apart in the state following fresh emerging details of defection plans by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The Punch NG reports revealed that there are strong indications that Amosun, is set to defect to the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP).
According to the national newspaper, Amosun had already positioned his close allies and top government officials in the state in the DPP to contest against the candidates of the ruling party.
Further information indicated that the officials and aides would be eventually unveiled as the candidates of the DPP in the guise of “consensus on or before December.”
According to the defection plans which was revealed, Amosun’s top aides and officials in his government would move to the DPP ahead of him before he would eventually join them.
Newsheadline247 understands the governor has perfected his plans and intention to defect from the ruling party.
A source was quoted saying “He already has candidates for the three senatorial zones and nine House of Representatives seats in the DPP.”
The candidates are; Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, who is the current state’s Commissioner for Health is for Ogun East senatorial districts, Alhaji Bolanle Adeyemi is Alhaji Bolanle Adeyemi, a serving Senior Special Assistant to the governor is positioned to contest in Ogun Central senatorial district while the current Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Energy, Chief Taiwo Fagbemi has been picked to contest the Ogun West senate.
Like the senatorial candidates, information made available also revealed candidates for all the federal constituencies across the state have been picked.
But it was, however, gathered that all the aides and officials of governor Amosun presently positioned in DPP to contest are to be substituted with the consensus candidates on or before the December 1 deadline for withdrawal/final substitution of candidates.
Some of the identified candidates who spoke to the newspaper on Friday confirmed they were on their way to the DPP on the instruction of governor Amosun.
“Yes, it is true, the governor has said we should move to the DPP, but I cannot make any official comment now. Oga will join us later,” one of them in the National Assembly said.
Amosun has alleged that the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, colluded with some persons he described as members of the ‘Lagos cabal’ to manipulate the primaries, especially that of the governorship, in the state.
The APC has submitted the name of billionare oil magnate, Dapo Abiodun, as its governorship candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the surprise of Amosun, who had consistently maintained that his preferred candidate, a member of the House of Representatives, Adekunle Akinlade, would succeed him as the state governor.
