Gov Aiyedatiwa Champions Fitness & Faith: Leads Thousands on Golden Jubilee Health Walk in Akure

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday led a massive health walk through Akure to underscore the critical link between physical fitness, spiritual renewal, and effective leadership and living.

The exercise, which started from the Government House, Alagbaka, and ended at the Akure Township Stadium, formed a key highlight of activities marking the state’s golden jubilee celebration.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The walk drew enthusiastic participation from members of the State Executive Council, political appointees, party faithful, civil servants, and a large turnout of residents who lined the streets cheering and joining in.

Speaking at the stadium after the walk, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged Ondo people to remain committed to renewing their strength both physically and spiritually.

Drawing inspiration from Scripture, he reminded participants: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength,” adding that the crowd’s ability to complete the walk without anyone fainting demonstrated remarkable resilience.

He described the health walk as an essential part of the jubilee programme, explaining that “the body, which carries the soul and spirit, must be kept in good shape to function effectively.”

The Governor highlighted the proven benefits of regular physical exercise, including improved cardiovascular health, better breathing, and enhanced overall wellbeing.

“A weak or sick body can negatively affect both the soul and our spiritual connection,” he noted.

Expressing delight at the impressive turnout and smooth execution of the event—with no injuries recorded—Aiyedatiwa commended the anniversary planning committee, chaired by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, for their efforts.

He announced that jubilee activities would continue the following day with a special thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Akure.

The health walk not only promoted wellness but also fostered unity and community spirit among Ondo residents as the state marks 50 years of existence.
