Following his escape, the Igangan farmer who disclosed that he has been away from his family for weeks, further revealed that he has since been hiding somewhere in the eastern part of the country for the safety of his life.

A farmer in the Igangan community area of your State, Idowu David Komolafe, has cried out for government’s protection of their lives and properties following the invasion and merciless killings of residents and destruction of properties by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Tension has continued to mount in the community after the attack.

Igangan is a town in the Oke-Ogun area, Oyo North Senatorial District of the State in the South West Region of Nigeria.

The gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had invaded and attacked the town on Saturday night and left early Sunday morning.

Several residents were reportedly killed and properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed in the ruthless attack.

Recounting his ordeal, Komolafe, who is one of the prominent farmers in the town, said the invasion was more of war adding that the attack was a huge tragedy for the community and humanity.

According to him, many lives were unnecessary taken and farms destroyed during the attack.

In a chat with our correspondent, Komolafe disclosed that his four hectares of land with yam, cassava and maize crops were destroyed adding that his farmworkers were not speared in the attack. He stated further that, subsequently, he was forced to fled the town after regaining freedom from abduction with the help of Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Counting Losses of Invasion

The Ilesha born Igangan farmer narrated how his farm alongside several others was invaded as well as the destruction of farm produces stored in the farmhouses.

He said “My farm was invaded along with all other farms by Fulani herdsmen at the early hours in the morning. All my farm produce in the barns and planted crops were destroyed by the Fulani herdsmen. My farmhouse and office were burnt down.

“I was abducted with two of my farmworkers, Isaac Fanisi and Kazeem Ajewole. We were stripped naked in the cold for two weeks.

Speaking further, Komolafe disclosed that it was Sunday Igboho’s relentless agitation for the Yoruba freedom and defending of the Igangan town against the Fulani herdsmen invasion that propelled him to join his (igboho’s) group same month of June he rescued him from his abductors.

Komolafe also revealed that he joined Sunday Igbo’s Yoruba Nation agitation group after he (Komolafe) was rescued from Fulani herders who abducted him after his farm was destroyed during an invasion of Igangan town claiming that he was at the house of the Yoruba activist when men of the Department of State Security Service, DSS, stormed the Ibadan home of Igboho.

According to him, the group was planning for Yoruba Nation rallies in Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Osun States, July 1, 2021, when the DSS and joint security operatives stormed to raid Igboho’s house located in Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

“I and Chief Igboho and some other members of the group managed to escape through his secret channel that night before the security operatives could break into the house and afterwards we went our separate ways,”Komolafe revealed.

Following his escape, the Igangan farmer who disclosed that he has been away from his family for weeks, further revealed that he has since been hiding somewhere in the eastern part of the country for the safety of his life.

“I have been in hiding since then in the Eastern part of Nigeria for the safety of my life and I don’t know how long this will take me to be away from my wife and kids,” Komolafe disclosed.
