Controversial singer Portable has been arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ogun over assault, theft, and resisting arrest, and remanded in custody

Portable Arraigned in Ogun Court Over Assault, Theft, Resisting Arrest

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, and obstruction of police officers.

Portable was brought before the court on Monday, following his arrest after a viral video surfaced on Sunday showing the singer in police custody. The arrest reportedly stemmed from a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

Confirming the development, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the charges against the singer include assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting lawful arrest.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar located in Iyana Ilogbo, where the singer allegedly assaulted Ashabi Simple, several individuals, and police officers who responded to a distress call.

Among the alleged victims listed in the charge sheet are Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola and allegedly purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple reportedly testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. However, Ashabi herself was absent from the court session.

The police further accused the singer of assaulting and obstructing Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police officer, while she was performing her official duties.

Ruling on the matter, the presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge insisted that the officer must be present before bail could be considered.

Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody, with the court adjourning the case and fixing January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing. The development has once again placed the outspoken singer at the centre of public controversy, sparking widespread reactions across social media and the entertainment industry. Read More
