Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti accuses Wizkid of stealing his nickname during a livestream, insisting he used “Big Bird” long before the star

Seun Kuti Accuses Wizkid of Stealing His Nickname

Nigerian Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has stirred conversation online after accusing Grammy-winning singer Wizkid of adopting a nickname he claims to have used long before the superstar.

Kuti made the allegation during a recent livestream, reacting to a comment from a Wizkid fan who urged him to stop using the nickname “Big Bird”, citing Wizkid’s popular moniker “Biggest Bird.”

Visibly displeased, the Afrobeat singer dismissed the suggestion and instead asked the fan to encourage Wizkid to be more original.

“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name?” Kuti said.

He insisted that he had been known by the nickname long before Wizkid began using a similar title, stressing that he had no intention of changing it.

“Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it. I am not dragging it with anybody, please,” he added.

The comment has since sparked debate among fans of both artistes on social media, with supporters on each side weighing in on who truly owns the nickname.

While neither Wizkid nor his team has responded to the claim, the exchange has added another chapter to the ever-lively conversations that trail Nigeria’s biggest music stars online.
