The Katsina office of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Wednesday raided some shops at the Katsina central market and other shops along Jibia road for evacuation of unfortified children food products.
Food products not fortified with Vitamin ‘A’ are set for evacuation in view of their lack of basic nutrient for growth and development of children and women.
Adamu Usman Abubakar, the Katsina State coordinator of the SON said no arrest has been made in the exercise.
He, however, informed that seven persons were arrested during the exercise last year.
“Last year, seven persons got arrested and substantial products evacuated, this year so far we are seeing compliance,” he added.
Abubakar said an intelligence unit of the agency has been activated in the state for possible raid and arrest of culprits adding that ‘ continues surveillance is been carried out with a view to fishing out culprits.’
“’We are collaborating with sister agencies like NAFDAC, CPC, and international partners to ensure that the fortification programme of the present administration succeeds”.
