Senator Gbenga Daniel accuses the Ogun State Governor of operating a “3-man closed government” and warns that federal funding for Ijebu North road projects may be lost if the stop-work order is not lifted by December 2025

Stop-Work Order May Cost Ijebu North Federal Projects, Senator Gbenga Daniel Warns

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel has warned that political interference and a controversial stop-work order on two federal road projects in Ijebu North could lead to the loss of federal funding of projects in the area by December 2025.

Daniel made the remarks on Sunday during the Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement in Ijebu North Local Government.

The former Ogun State Governor and current senator representing Ogun East began by commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their “timely and principled intervention” in the crisis rocking the Ogun APC, following an attempt to “suspend” him.

“Their action has restored a measure of sanity, reminding us that the APC is a party of due process and internal democracy,” he said.

He dismissed claims of anti-party activities, insisting neither he nor members of the BATOGD Movement had committed any wrongdoing before, during, or after any election.

Daniel criticised the Ogun State Governor for what he termed a refusal to embrace inclusive governance, alleging that the administration had weaponised threats, demolitions, and intimidation against traditional rulers, community leaders, and even teachers who interacted with perceived critics.

“What we have in Ogun State is a ‘3-man closed government,’ a system where no one outside a tiny cabal can offer counsel without being ostracised, victimised, and marked for persecution,” he said.

“This is not governance; it is a cult, run with dictatorial instincts, treating our commonwealth as a personal estate.”

He added that despite offering private counsel to the governor on multiple occasions, he was met with “public ostracisation and exclusion from party and government activities.”

Addressing the people of Ijebu North directly, Daniel revealed that he facilitated the rehabilitation of the Itanrin and General Hospital Roads through federal agencies as part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

However, he alleged that the state government had obstructed the project out of political resentment.

“They erroneously believe the federal contractors are ‘OGD’s contractors,’ and in line with their agenda of removing anything associated with me, the project must be frustrated,” Daniel said.

He stated that a “stop work order” was issued by the local government chairman, allegedly under pressure.

Daniel warned that if the directive is not reversed before December 2025, the federal funds will be withdrawn.

“If by December 2025 this stop work order is not revoked, the federal funding for these roads will be lost,” he cautioned.

“How can we continue to earmark projects for Ijebu North if this is the treatment that awaits them?”

He appealed to traditional rulers and stakeholders to intervene, calling the alleged sabotage “the height of political pettiness.”

Highlighting his legacy as governor, Daniel cited the establishment of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, the multi-campus expansion of Olabisi Onabanjo University, and significant upgrades to tertiary education across Ogun East.

As senator, he said he has facilitated solar street lights, boreholes, and sponsored a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode.

“Our commitment is unwavering. We will not be distracted by political witch-hunts,” he assured.

Daniel ended with a reaffirmation of loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Read More
