English-born CD Tenerife winger, Omorinsola Babajide, has made the decision to switch her international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The 25-year-old, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, had the option to represent either the English national team or the Nigerian Super Falcons.
Babajide had previously represented England at the youth levels, including the Under-19, Under-20, and Under-21 teams. She was part of the squad that won a bronze medal at the 2018 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup held in France.
However, Babajide expressed her joy and gratitude after receiving her first call-up to the Nigeria Women’s national team for the Olympic Qualifiers.
She took to her official Instagram page to share her excitement, stating, “I’m grateful and blessed to have received a call-up for the Olympic Qualifiers; the love I’ve been feeling has been very overwhelming. Thank you so much #Honoured #SuperFalcons,” as reported by Daily Trust.
Teammates with Monday Gift and Esther Okoronkwo at Tenerife, Babajide forms part of a formidable attacking trio for the Spanish team.
Prior to her move to Spain, she had a successful spell with various clubs in England such as Crystal Palace, Millwall Lionesses, Watford, Liverpool, and Brighton & Hove Albion.
In 2022, she joined Real Betis before eventually making the move to Tenerife after one season.
