‘There Was Conspiracy to Annul 2023 Presidential Election,’ Soyinka alleges
Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has alleged that there was a conspiracy to annul the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, drawing parallels with the infamous 1993 election cancelled by Nigerian former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the 2023 election defeating Abubakar Atiku (PDP) and Peter Obi (Labour Party) in a keenlly contested record presidential election.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, Soyinka asserted that there were elements determined to lead the nation back to the dark days of political instability.
The playwright also expressed his disdain for the comments made by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, describing it as “disgraceful and menacing.”
As reported by Punch, Baba-Ahmed had urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria not to swear in Tinubu as the duly elected president, a move Soyinka found deeply troubling.
