President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered a poignant message on Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, warning that any nation that forgets its fallen heroes risks losing its sense of purpose, direction, and very identity.
In a statement released to mark the solemn occasion, the President emphasized that Nigeria pauses annually not just for ceremony, but to actively honour the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the ultimate price defending the country’s sovereignty, peace, and unity.
“While their names may not always be remembered, their courage continues to sustain our freedom and peace,” Tinubu said. “Remembrance is not merely ceremonial; it is central to our national identity and continuity.”
He stressed that the sacrifices of fallen personnel must remain etched in the national consciousness, cautioning that “any country that fails to honour its heroes undermines its own future.”
The President affirmed Nigeria’s enduring commitment: “Nigeria remains a nation that remembers, drawing strength and direction from the bravery of those who gave everything in service to the country.”
