President Bola Tinubu marks Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a heartfelt tribute to Nigeria’s fallen soldiers, assuring bereaved families of eternal gratitude and pledging unwavering support for serving troops

Tinubu: A Nation That Forgets Its Fallen Heroes Risks Losing Its Soul – Tribute on Armed Forces Remembrance Day
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered a poignant message on Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, warning that any nation that forgets its fallen heroes risks losing its sense of purpose, direction, and very identity.
In a statement released to mark the solemn occasion, the President emphasized that Nigeria pauses annually not just for ceremony, but to actively honour the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the ultimate price defending the country’s sovereignty, peace, and unity.
“While their names may not always be remembered, their courage continues to sustain our freedom and peace,” Tinubu said. “Remembrance is not merely ceremonial; it is central to our national identity and continuity.”
He stressed that the sacrifices of fallen personnel must remain etched in the national consciousness, cautioning that “any country that fails to honour its heroes undermines its own future.”
The President affirmed Nigeria’s enduring commitment: “Nigeria remains a nation that remembers, drawing strength and direction from the bravery of those who gave everything in service to the country.”
Tinubu extended deep empathy to the families of the fallen—widows, children, parents, and loved ones—acknowledging the irreplaceable void left behind.
“No words can adequately replace the sacrifices made by their fallen relatives,” he said, “but Nigeria will never forget their service, which was honourable and selfless.”
The tribute also turned to the serving men and women of the Armed Forces. Tinubu commended their courage, discipline, and professionalism across every theatre of operation—on land, at sea, and in the air.
“From the frontlines to support roles, and often far from home, our troops continue to shoulder the heavy responsibility of protecting lives, safeguarding sovereignty, and preserving national stability,” he noted.
As President and Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity, and wellbeing of all personnel in active service.
“A secure Nigeria must stand firmly behind those who defend it,” he declared, pledging that government support for the Armed Forces would remain steadfast.
The President concluded with prayers: for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes, strength and protection for those still serving, and continued divine blessings upon the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The annual observance serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of peace and the debt the nation owes to its defenders—both past and present. Read More
