In a significant step to deepen economic relations, a bipartisan delegation of United States lawmakers engaged Nigeria’s leading private sector figures in a high-level dialogue in Abuja on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

The meeting, hosted by Tony O. Elumelu, CFR—Founder and Group Chairman of Heirs Holdings—was held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja and provided a direct platform for U.S. legislators and Nigeria’s business community to discuss shared economic priorities amid evolving global conditions.

The delegation was jointly led by Congressman Bill Huizenga and Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, with additional members including Congressmen Keith Self, Jim Baird, Jefferson Shreve, and Michael Baumgartner.

The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties, promoting private-sector collaboration, and advancing mutual economic interests between Nigeria and the United States.

Also in attendance were U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Richard M. Mills Jr., alongside senior embassy officials including Joe Foltz, Laura Carey, Michael McCabe, Rachel Walker, and Christine Harbaugh.
