US Delivers Critical Military Supplies to Nigeria to Boost Anti-Terror War

The United States government has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism across the country.

The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account. According to AFRICOM, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated, while tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria, @USinNigeria.

The development underscores the deepening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States at a time when the country continues to confront terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and violent extremism in several regions.

The military support comes months after Nigeria formally appealed to the United States for enhanced defence cooperation in November 2025, following Washington’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the appeal at the time, stressing the need for stronger bilateral collaboration to address Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.

Further strengthening this partnership, a joint airstrike operation was conducted on December 25, 2025, in collaboration with Nigerian authorities, targeting terrorist enclaves in parts of the North-West region. The Federal Government later confirmed that intelligence and security cooperation with the United States remained active following the operation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also disclosed that Nigeria is engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

According to the ministry, the cooperation spans intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and operational support, all conducted in compliance with international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and mutual security commitments.

Reacting to the joint military operation, United States Congressman Riley Moore described the airstrikes as “a decisive move to protect Christian communities and confront Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis.” Read More
