Warri Petroleum Refinery will boost wealth, job creation in Delta

The achievement of nearly 80% production capacity at the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company, owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), marks a significant milestone in the revival of both federal and state industries in Nigeria, particularly in Delta State.

Fred Oghenesivbe, the Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, made this statement during a television program on Sunday. He emphasized that the production of diesel, kerosene, and petrol would greatly enhance wealth creation and provide thousands of jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers across the state.

He noted that the resilient infrastructure development and socio-economic reforms initiated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are yielding substantial results. These efforts include building political bridges and forming strategic partnerships with the federal government to foster economic development and wealth creation for the people of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.

The DG dismissed rumors about the governor’s potential defection as laughable, unthinkable, and a product of professional rumor-mongers. He assured the public that Governor Oborevwori would continue to work tirelessly and build alliances to enhance sustainable growth in all sectors of the state economy.

He reassured the people of Delta that the smooth implementation of the MORE Agenda would attract both local and foreign investments to the state. This will also facilitate robust collaboration with President Tinubu and the federal government, in line with the strategic economic growth policies outlined in Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which is currently being implemented across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He urged those advocating for the payment of monthly stipends to youths and unemployed graduates by the management of Warri Refinery to reconsider their stance. He pointed out that no country in the world expects refineries to pay stipends to unemployed young graduates and secondary school leavers; rather, these organizations should provide jobs through various available positions.

He expressed confidence that the resumption of incremental production of petrol, diesel, and kerosene at the Warri Refinery would create jobs and generate wealth for eligible and qualified school leavers and graduates. He encouraged the youth of Delta State to celebrate and support Governor Oborevwori for the substantial economic turnaround he has achieved since taking office on May 29, 2023. Read More
