2026 Will Be Glorious, Sanwo-Olu Assures Lagosians at New Year Service

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed strong optimism that the New Year will be better and more glorious, declaring that Lagos and Nigeria will overcome their challenges with faith, resilience and collective effort.

The governor made the remarks on New Year’s Day during a special service held at the State House Chapel, Marina, where he prayed for divine guidance and affirmed his belief that “with God all will be well.”

Sanwo-Olu also joined Muslim faithful at a mosque to participate in New Year prayers, underscoring his administration’s commitment to religious harmony and unity across the state.

While addressing worshippers, the governor offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and called on Nigerians to continue supporting the president’s bold reforms aimed at addressing the nation’s social and economic challenges.

“Lagos will continue to make progress. It shall be well with all citizens; 2026 will be a glorious year,” Sanwo-Olu declared.

Reflecting on leadership and the passage of time, the governor acknowledged the transient nature of political office, noting that his tenure is nearing its final phase.

“There will be political movements. I will continue to count my days; I have only one January first left in office. No position is permanent,” he said.

He urged citizens not to lose hope despite prevailing challenges, stressing the importance of prayer and perseverance.

“Let’s continue to pray. We will never give up, no matter the challenges. Nigeria will be greater,” the governor added.

At the mosque, Sanwo-Olu encouraged workers across the state to demonstrate greater dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, while again offering prayers for the president, his family and all Nigerians.

The New Year service at the State House Chapel was attended by senior government officials, junior staff and members of the public. The sermon was delivered by Dr Bukola Oluwagbemiga, Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Life Theological Seminary, Ikorodu, who spoke on total reliance on God, citing Psalm 121 and John 10:27–30.

Dr Oluwagbemiga urged the governor and other public officials to create platforms that allow God’s work to manifest through good governance and service to humanity.

Meanwhile, during the Muslim prayers, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs (Muslim), Dr Abdullahi Jebe, cautioned against hypocrisy and called for unity and sincerity of purpose among Nigerians.

The New Year religious activities were jointly coordinated by Dr Jebe and the Special Adviser on Religion (Christian), The Very Rev. Bukola Adebiyi. Special prayers were offered for Governor Sanwo-Olu and his family, Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, the THEMES Plus Agenda, civil servants and their families, as well as for a peaceful Nigeria and a greater Lagos.
