The Developmental Initiative (TDI), a Coalition of forward-minded civil society platforms, has stated that electricity and energy supply are pivotal to Nigeria if the nation must come out of her present state of under-development to attain industrial as well as economic self-sufficiency.
The group in a statement made available to newsheadline247 added that Nigeria has recorded ‘‘the systematic de-industrialisation of her economy as a result of paralysing capital flights due to the invasion of the nation’s economy by “Generator Cabals” and foreign firms.’’
TDI, however, recall probe of the funds disbursed under the administration of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Jonathan Goodluck.
Below is the statement in full:
The Developmental Initiative is a Coalition of forward-minded civil society platforms that are concerned about the socio-economic development of Nigeria and its many challenges.
TDI has been following with keen interest in the on-going national discourse on probing of the recurrent budgetary allocation as well as reforms to improve the supply of electricity in the country. More than $16Billon allocated to the sector had seemingly gone down the drainpipe into private accounts and personal pockets.
The Presidency and National Assembly have thrown their weight behind the “Probe Call” of the funds disbursed under the administration of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Jonathan Goodluck.

We are cocksure that electricity and energy supply are pivotal to Nigeria coming out of her present state of under-development to attain industrial as well as economic self-sufficiency.
As we have recorded the systematic de-industrialisation of the Nigerian economy is as a result of paralysing capital flights due to the invasion of our economy by “Generator Cabals” and foreign firms as well as sucking up of any iota of local subsistence by technical tradesmen such as iron welders, tailors etc.
Thus, we unequivocally call for massive rallying around the campaign and initiative to probe the funds spent on revamping the power sector from Obasanjo’s regime till date.
No doubt since the reform of unbundling the National Electricity Power Authority ( NEPA) into DISCO, GENCO and TCN, the Electricity supply has been nose diving rather than improving and the only testimony from consumers are on the crazy bills they receive, their extortion by electricity distribution companies and epileptic electricity supply.
Nigerians must rise up to demand for this probe no matter whose Ox is gored from Heads of parastatals to Ministers, the Bureau of Public Enterprises ( BPE) to former Presidents. This is just an acid test for our developmental strides and aspirations.
We equally call on the Federal Government to urgently explore and intensify efforts at providing alternative energy supply like solar and nuclear energy to drive our ailing economy out of comatose. Juliana Ihejirika Moderator.
