“My dad said, even though my siblings and I were born in this hood, the hood will not be inside us”
Multiple-award-winning actress, Bimbo Ademoye has reflected on how she was able to avoid the ghetto life despite growing up in a lowbrow area of Lagos.
“I was that girl her dad never allowed to go out, we just watched everything from the inside. My dad said, even though my siblings and I were born in this hood, the hood will not be inside us,” she said.
Ademoye thanked her father for instilling discipline in her and her siblings while growing up.
She noted that growing up in the heart of Ebute Metta, a Lagos suburb was tough as they would always see and hear of crimes happening constantly.
“I’m from the hood, I’m from Ebute Metta, breaking bottles is a norm there, lifestyle is a norm for me, waking up to the news that someone just got murdered is a norm for me so I thought I was going to play that role in Amazon Prime’s Gangs of Lagos when I got the script.”
