What is the essence of being on high speed that may truncate the journey and lead to untimely death?
Worried by escalating number of death by road crash almost on daily basis, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has advised drivers to put premium on people’s lives above every other consideration.
The TRACE Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, ‘Seni Ogunyemi dropped the advice while reacting to a fatal accident on Wednesday that claimed six lives and sent 13 others to hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with some journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, Ogunyemi wondered why some drivers failed to learn from others people’s mistakes.
According to the TRACE Boss, the latest crash was caused as a result of impatience, excessive speed and loss of control induced by alcoholic influence on the part of the drivers of the three vehicles involved.
“Why can’t we put premium on our lives above other consideration of being high under the influence of alcohol? What is the essence of being on high speed that may truncate the journey and lead to untimely death? This has happened several times, yet drivers are not learning”, he said.
According to Ogunyemi, TRACE Agency has organized series of workshops for drivers against all these vices that are catalyst to early grave.
“We have been taking training to parks and garages, market places as well as road campaign, warning against excessive speed, drinking and driving, yet drivers do not learn. We will not stop as long as we are concerned”, he said.
While commiserating with the families of those killed in the accident and praying for repose of their souls, the TRACE Boss prayed for quick recovery for the injured.
