Party Crisis: PDP Govs Postpone NEC Meeting, Sue For Peace Among Members
Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances
The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors forum, which was originally scheduled for October 24, 2024, has been rescheduled to November 28, 2024.
This decision was made after a consultative meeting of its various organs, which took place on Tuesday at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro.
A communiqué issued and signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, stated that the meeting was postponed to ensure that the party enters the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 16, 2024, with the unity and strength needed to “unseat the floundering All Progressive Congress (APC) government in the state”.
The meeting also aimed to address disunity among members.
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027,” the communique read in part.
The meeting was attended by the PDP Governors Forum, its Board of Trustees, National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus and Forum of Former Governors of the party
The meeting comes in the wake of an internal crisis currently rocking the party.
The PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had suspended the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Ajibade.
In response, Ologunagba and Ajibade suspended Damagum and Anyanwu, leading to a stalemate, which was broken by the PDP Governors Forum.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, had after a meeting with the feuding party leaders, called for a ceasefire and a return to the status quo. More
